Sonia’s Picks- January in the Capital

It’s hard to believe that it is actually January with the milder temperatures and rain we have been experiencing here in Ottawa. Rest assured it is not the spring thaw yet:)  With January comes the dull dreary weather, the holidays are over and the credit card bills are starting to pour in. That means we need to look for activities and events that our families can take part in that are either free or won’t break the bank!

There are deals to be had all over the city:
1.The Canadian Museum of Nature  is free on Thursday nights 5-8PM.
2.The Canadian Museum of Civilization, including the absolutely stellar Children’s Museum, is free on Thursday nights after 4 pm.
3.Admission to the Experimental Farm animal barns is free in the winter months.
4.Visit the Bank of Canada’s Currency Museum . Free admission!

The Ottawa public library is also a great place to go and its always FREE! Your library branch offers a variety of programs for kids of all ages. Check out their website http://biblioottawalibrary.ca/ for more information specific to your branch.

There is no shortage of activities in this great city that we live in! So take advantage of all that Ottawa has to offer because spending time with your family does not have to mean breaking the bank!
